Hall of Famer Todd Helton and Rockies Exec / Former Manager Clint Hurdle Bring the Hits!

COLORADO SPRINGS, April 7, 2025 – Bat Around® is now open at Coors Field in collaboration with the Colorado Rockies to create a hitting experience for fans. The new game is baseball meets video game. Fans hit a physical ball and the virtual animation plays on the screen to gamify hitting. The Rockies are the second MLB team stadium to incorporate Bat Around, joining the Tampa Bay Rays.

Former Rockies manager and current Rockies special assistant to the GM Clint Hurdle is a co-founder of Bat Around, and other advisors to the company include former Rockies players Todd Helton (2024 Baseball Hall of Fame), Matt Holliday, Ryan Spilborghs, Jeff Cirillo and Juan Pierre.

The Bat Around mixed reality experience is located on the main concourse level in right field near the stairs to section 204 behind the bullpen areas. The batting cage will feature a baseball tracking monitor from HitTrax, with projector and screen where fans will see results of their live hits in real time. Play for fun and get your BAM® (Bat Around Metric) score and stats in the Bat Around app.

"Fans can get the rush of hitting a ball at Coors Field and then continue the Bat Around experience by playing the game at local batting cages," said Matt Farrell, Bat Around CEO who is based in Colorado Springs. "It is important to grow the game of baseball to have the same experience at Coors Field be available at any batting cage in the area. It will bring more ‘BAM’ to Colorado and baseball!”

Bat Around was inspired by 13 former MLB stars with more than 30,000 hits who comprise a Hitting Legends Council, including Hall of Famers Helton and Fred McGriff and World Series MVP David Eckstein. The game was the vision of Hurdle.

“I wanted everyone to get the opportunity to swing a bat, enjoy this great game and the get the thrill of hitting the ball,” said Hurdle. “First timers will love the experience and more avid players will get to reinforce fundamental and situational hitting skills like hitting line drives, moving runners and getting the ball in play under pressure.”

Bat Around, powered by HitTrax, is a game for all ages and ability levels and is currently available in Colorado and nationally at these locations and available at no cost. Contact us at info@letsbataround.com for more information.

Fans at Coors Field will get a modified version of Bat Around that includes a game with a minimum of nine hits. Each “round” of Bat Around will test a different skill and have three hits per round.

  • Liñeas – hit a line drive up the middle

  • Around the World – hit one ball to each part of the field (left, center, right)

  • Walk-Off – be the hero with bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning

The batting cage version of the Bat Around software will have more game options including six rounds and the opportunity to play 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3. Additional rounds for cages include Lunchbox (situational hitting to move runners), Laser Show (hit a personalized exit velocity target range) and Gamer (3 outs or 3 minutes, whichever comes first).

In the Bat Around app, players can get all of their statistics, including their proprietary Bat Around Metric, or BAM®, score. Plus, they can participate in challenges, see their name on the leaderboard, get pro tips and even create a digital baseball card to share. Bat Around is free to download in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Bat Around made its MLB stadium debut in 2024 with the Tampa Bay Rays and had more than 3,000 games played during Rays home games. Bat Around also partnered with Rawlings Easton at the 2024 College World Series and was invited by MLB to be part of a new technology showcase at the MLB Winter Meetings.
